PUNGMUL — THE RHYTHM OF THE LAND

      풍물 · 땅의 리듬

      Heritage Hoodie — Korea

A study of rhythm, movement and collective tradition.

Inspired by Pungmul — Korea’s tradition of percussion, dance and communal performance — this Heritage Hoodie captures the energy of movement through expressive ink work, sweeping brushstrokes and restrained accents of traditional color.

The back artwork centers on a Korean percussion performer in motion, with the flowing sangmo ribbon cutting across the composition like rhythm made visible. Fellow musicians emerge through layered charcoal washes, giving the piece the character of a traditional ink painting brought into motion.

The dark charcoal heavyweight hoodie was selected as part of the composition itself, allowing the ivory brushwork and subtle red, blue and yellow accents to emerge naturally from the garment.

A minimal 풍물 detail on the left chest completes the piece.

    RHYTHM MADE COMMUNAL

Pungmul brings percussion, movement and people together.

Rooted in Korea’s village traditions, it developed around communities gathering for seasonal celebrations, festivals and collective life.

The sweeping sangmo ribbon at the center of the artwork transforms that tradition into a visible line of movement — rhythm carried from one generation to the next.

    THE RHYTHM OF THE LAND

땅의 리듬 — The Rhythm of the Land — is a phrase created for this piece, connecting the sound of percussion with the communities and collective traditions from which Pungmul developed.

For generations, Korean folk performance has carried rhythm through gatherings, celebrations and communal life. Pungmul remains a living tradition today — performed, taught and carried forward rather than simply remembered.

That continuity is at the heart of NÓSTOS.

    Not culture preserved behind glass.

    Culture still moving.

ROOTED IN PEOPLE. CARRIED BY RHYTHM
